Steve has been a resident of Gilbert Arizona for 32 years and has been married to the former Renae Ricks of Mesa for 39 years, they have four children, and three grandchildren.
He currently serves as the presiding JP in the Highland Justice Court in the Highland District. He has served as a training/mentoring judge for newly elected justices of the peace.
He currently serves as the chair of Judicial Development and Training, as well as, he serves on the Professional Standards and Policy Committee.
Previously, Steve Urie served as an Arizona State Legislator for Legislative District 22. As a state legislator, he served on the Appropriations Committee, the Appropriations Sub-committee (chair) of Debt Reduction, the Appropriations Sub-committee (vice-chair) for Multi-Year Budgeting, Government Committee, the Agriculture and Water Committee, and the Joint Legislative Committee to select the Arizona Ombudsmen (Chair).
In 2003, Steve was selected as the REALTOR of the YEAR from among the agents and brokers of the 12th largest REALTOR Board in the nation. His business, Mesa Verde Property Management, Inc, is a member of the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce. Steve is also a member the National Association of Residential Property Managers and a member of the local, state and national associations of REALTORS. In the past, Steve has served his local REALTOR Board on the Grievance Committee and on the Arizona Association of REALTORS Professional Standards Committee.
Steve served 11 years (1999 - 2010) on the Gilbert Town Council before resigning to run for the state legislature. During his years of service on Council, he served as liaison to the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Redevelopment Commission. Prior to serving on the Town Council, Steve served 4 years (1995 to 1999) on the Redevelopment Commission.
Steve has an Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement from Ohlone Community College (1976), a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management with emphasis in Marketing and Finance from Brigham Young University (1979) and an MBA in Management Information Systems from the University of Arizona (1982). He also holds the National Association of Residential Property Managers RMP and MPM designations, and the REALTORS the GRI and ABR designations.
